In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, challenging, complex and difficult to navigate, it’s not surprising that sometimes we don’t feel ok.

Whether you’re struggling in life or want to work on achieving future goals, I can support you to feel good about yourself and lead the life that you aspire for ….

“When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves” Victor E Frankl

Counselling

There may be many reasons why you might be feeling stuck and unable to find a way forward.

Having space to make sense of and learn helpful ways of addressing your difficulties can help to put things in to perspective.

Counselling is more reflective on where you are in your life now and how your past has shaped the present.  Some of the issues that may arise from past issues could include:

  • Difficult life events such as bereavement, addiction, abuse and trauma
  • Mental health issues such anxiety, depression and worry
  • Self-discovery to learn more about yourself/repeated patterns of behaviour or to work on your own personal development

Counselling provides a safe, impartial and confidential way in which to explore your feelings. It’s at times like these that finding a trustworthy person to talk to can feel invaluable.

I can offer a safe and empathetic environment in which we can begin to explore together the causes and effects of unwanted thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Our work together will aim to heal past hurts, reduce present distress, and equip you with tools to face whatever the future may bring.

Coaching

People tend to seek coaching because they want to achieve something in the future. This could include:

  • Personal life such as improving relationships and interpersonal skills, health and wellness, confidence and self-esteem building, time-management and productivity
  • Business/Career to plan towards starting your own business, get a promotion at work, improve assertiveness/presentation skills or start a new career
  • Life transitions or decisions such as becoming a new parent, moving to a new country, loss of health, empty-nest syndrome, redundancy or retirement

Coaching is more forward-facing and works towards developing a clear path between now and your future. It remains centred around the belief that everyone can achieve their goals through acknowledging and using their own resources, rather than being told what to do.

The coaching goals are agreed from the start within a defined timeframe and each session will factor in an action plan for you to take away, meaning that the best outcomes are achieved when you commit to doing the ‘homework’.

Coaching can also help you even if you’re not sure what you want from life as it can assist with recognising your strengths, values and passions and understanding how you may not be living life according to these qualities. It aims to support you to find what may be lacking and how to gain that fulfilment.

Coaching will provide you with the ongoing tools, techniques and strategies to create change and lasting success.

Julia’s counselling sessions have been incredibly helpful. She created a safe space for me to explore my feelings, and I now have practical strategies for coping with challenges. I feel more confident and resilient thanks to her support, and I highly recommend her services

Julia was great in helping me to transition from full-time work to retirement which I was looking forward to but also had some worries about feeling fulfilled after a long career. We discussed how I would scale down my work by working part-time and spending more time on hobbies. I would highly recommend her services.

Working with Julia over the last few months has been emotional and warming and motivational. She offers you a safe space to be true to yourself and let go of any troubles, no matter how big or small. Thank you Julia for nurturing me and my feelings and allowing me to truly blossom from the depths of despair.

As a mature graduate in Physiotherapy, I approached Julia for help to gain confidence for interviews. It’d been over 20 years since any real interview and I was very anxious and under the pressure of the occasion.
Julia helped me to overcome interview nerves and I would not hesitate to use her services again in the future.
Highly recommended.

My approach

Counselling sessions can be either long or short-term – determining the length of the treatment is a collaborative process and will depend on your individual goals, needs and level of support required. Coaching tends to be between 6-10 sessions.

To help you decide if I am the right person for you I offer a brief phone/online assessment where you can tell me more about yourself and what you would like to achieve. You will get a taste of how counselling works and see if we feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation.

Cost – 60 for 1hr.

I have an allocation of client spaces at negotiated discounted rates for face-to face/online counselling sessions for trainee counsellors, NHS workers and low-income individuals where possible.

In-person counselling sessions take place at a quiet, private room in St Neots library, Cambridgeshire. Coaching sessions can take place at Wyboston Waterfront Hotel in the spacious café area overlooking a beautiful lake (session price includes a hot or cold drink).

Online sessions are also available.

I also offer walk-and-talk sessions in the outdoors if you prefer. This might take place at Riverside Park, St Neots or a local, nearby nature reserve.
